Universal Patient Room Concept

Huntington Hospital

FreemanWhite completed the feasibility study and subsequent facility design for a four-story expansion to the east side of the Huntington Hospital campus. The project consists of an emergency department on the ground level, with surgery expansion above. There is also an additional floor for future expansion. Designed for maximum flexibility, this space has the ability to accommodate future Women’s Services expansion (NICU), Intensive Care Unit, or Observation Unit.

The emergency department expanded the existing 15,000 sf department to a 50-bed, 40,000 sf department able to accommodate 85,000 annual visits. The ED consists of a rapid care/advanced protocol area, as well as four flexible modules designed around the universal room concept, allowing the department to accommodate any patient in any room.
