Sustainable Design for Patient-Focused Care
The Villa at Suffield Meadows
The Villa at Suffield Meadows is a Planetree Assisted Living/Memory Care residence nestled in the rolling hills of Northern Virginia. This LEED® accredited facility evokes the charm and beauty of the area, reflecting the town’s historical context with a “green” twist. The design captures the sophistication and elegance of the Old South while appealing to the current resident population.
Providing numerous high end amenities, The Villa provides gathering and social spaces to all campus residents. Prior to this development, independent residents had no “community” center, so the owner incorporated a variety of common spaces to encourage the interaction of residents and the community. Specific design elements that appeal to the community include the transitional aesthetics and unique outdoor features like the fireplace patio, water jets, and “secret” garden. Additionally, the beauty/barber and assisted living bathing areas provide a relaxing retreat. The client intended these spaces to appeal to all residents. The spa-inspired design utilizes cool, calm colors, clean lines, and natural and recycled materials to create a light, contemporary feel.
Residents’ living spaces offer a welcoming and relaxing residential experience. The main living room incorporates a double sided fireplace, water feature, and views of the rural landscape within an inviting transitional setting. Multiple gathering areas offer residents a choice of atmosphere to appeal to individual personalities and preferences. All finishes were selected to incorporate the sustainability, function, and durability of a typical assisted living facility while keeping the design residential in appearance.
