Carolinas Medical Center-Union Women’s Center
Revitalizing Local Reputation
This facility expansion allows the relocation of the labor/delivery function to create space for additional inpatient beds. The hospital gains 25 additional beds from the Certificate of Need and reclaims licensed beds that had been unavailable because the space had been converted to other functions. Just as important, the hospital gains a new image for Women’s Services as it competes with other providers in an area with a growing population.
With the relocation, the CMC-Union Women’s Center is moving from an LDR/Post-Partum delivery model to an LDRP/rooming-in model. Utilizing our data dashboards, FreemanWhite was able to demonstrate that – even with almost three times the floor area – the plan reduces staff travel distance resulting in increased time with patients and reduced interruptions while staff travels to support rooms.
