Lourdes Hospital Hybrid OR
First of Its Kind Hybrid OR in the State
In 2012, FreemanWhite completed construction of the first side-by-side cardiovascular and endovascular hybrid operating rooms in Kentucky. Combining surgical and radiological capabilities, each room was equipped by a different manufacturer using unique imaging equipment.
Resulting from FreemanWhite’s facility master plan, the project’s goals included elevating patient care to state-of-the-art levels and increasing the hospital’s market share for cardiovascular and endovascular services in Western Kentucky. To support the client’s speed to market goals, FreemanWhite shortened our construction schedule significantly to enable Lourdes to introduce these services before its competitor.
In addition to construction of the two new ORs, this multi-phase project involved relocating the administrative suite to create space for the new PACU. The new 14-bay PACU increases patient capacity, enhances storage/support spaces, and improves efficiency through proximity to inpatient elevators and prep/recovery rooms. The endovascular surgery suite, housing the OR, equipment room and control room, features Siemens equipment and a floor-mounted robotic arm. The adjacent cardiovascular surgery suite is equipped with a ceiling-mounted imaging system by Phillips. Accordingly, our designers and engineers were tasked with creating two distinct ORs that incorporated each manufacturer’s equipment, lighting, and integration systems, all united in a digital platform. The resulting hybrid ORs and enhanced PACU enable Lourdes to provide patient services that are unmatched in its market.
