The Pavilion at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast

Concord, North Carolina

Consolidated cancer services.

Ease of access and amenities influence design.

Located prominently on the Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast campus, The Pavilion is united with the adjacent Medical Arts Building by a new traffic loop and covered walkway. The addition serves an outpatient oncology population with 20 chemotherapy chairs, along with medical examination and support space. Patient satisfaction and care were the key drivers for this design, which incorporated many patient comments including patient entrances, drop-off canopies, warm and neutral interior environments, and amenities for families. These amenities include a boutique, library, and café. The design also emphasizes patient privacy and communication.

The interior design creates soothing and therapeutic environments. Materials found in nature – such as stone, water, and plants – are incorporated into the therapy spaces. In addition, fireplaces and private family retreat areas are also included.

The building has been designed to accommodate potential future vertical expansion for inpatient services and is strategically master planned to link with future parking decks and additional outpatient centers.
